What are we looking for?
 
Withers is placing an increased focus on business sustainability across our global firm, both internally for our people and externally for our clients. Internally, we have a sustainability framework that includes the following areas: communication and involvement; diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I); the environment; giving back/corporate social responsibility (CSR); pro bono and wellbeing. We have global committees in place supporting these areas and you would work closely with them to support their internal and external communication requirements. Externally, we are focusing on our environmental, social and governance (ESG) credentials and how we can work with our clients to make the world a better place. We're also increasing our focus on strategic sustainability campaigns to take our marketing, business development and communications activity to the next level. We're seeking someone who can help us achieve our ambitions in these areas. 
 
This is an exciting new role for the firm and you would have the scope to make it your own and truly make a difference. We're also recruiting a Sustainability Coordinator (based in London) who will support our internal and external-facing sustainability objectives, as well as a HR Coordinator (based in the US) who will focus on the DE&I, wellbeing and engagement aspects of our sustainability framework. You would work closely with each other, as well as a wider group of people who work on sustainability across the firm. The role will sit within the global marketing, business development (BD) and communications team, working closely with the communications and digital teams in particular. While this role is based in Singapore, it is a global role, working with colleagues across our 17 offices in Asia, Europe and the US. The role will work particularly closely with our Global Strategic Campaigns Manager and our Internal Communications Manager.
 
Areas of focus and responsibilities:
 
Internal sustainability communications:
  • Plan, write and edit internal sustainability news content in collaboration with our global sustainability committees and communications team, including uploading content to the firm's intranet.
  • Review and maintain existing sustainability-related content on the intranet and help to prepare and upload new content.
  • Work with the Internal Communications Manager to create and maintain a sustainability communications schedule. 
  • Provide internal communications support to all of our global sustainability committees, including helping to prepare PowerPoint slide templates and other meeting materials, supporting campaigns and events, and general day-to-day communications requests. 
  • Attend internal sustainability meetings to stay abreast of important themes and update on communications activity.
  • Assist the Sustainability Coordinator, HR Coordinator and other key stakeholders with internal sustainability communications as required. 
External sustainability communications: 
  • Plan, write and edit external sustainability news content in collaboration with our global sustainability committees and communications team, including uploading content to the firm's website. 
  • Review and maintain existing sustainability-related content on the website and help to prepare and upload new content.
  • Ensure we are communicating effectively and transparently the firm's progress against sustainability objectives/targets.
  • Help to coordinate sustainability communications activity with external organizations e.g. event partnerships, campaigns and community involvement.
  • Work with the marketing and BD teams to produce sustainability-related client credentials and capabilities materials. 
  • Assist the Sustainability Coordinator, HR Coordinator and other key stakeholders with external sustainability communications as required. 
General sustainability communications and campaigns: 
  • Coordinate all aspects of strategic business sustainability campaigns, working with our Global Strategic Campaigns Manager and other key stakeholders. This will include creating plans, working on content and assets, managing day-to-day activity with external suppliers/media and ensuring timely turnaround of deliverables.
  • Ensure all sustainability communications are on-brand and help to uplift and amplify the firm's work across all areas of business sustainability.
  • Work with internal stakeholders and external specialists (including copywriters and creative agencies) to create sustainability-related branded digital assets and content.
  • Work with the digital team to ensure the firm's sustainability content across all online touchpoints is accurate and refreshed consistently.
  • Gather reports/other intelligence for sustainability communication projects and keep on top of sustainability trends and benchmarking across all regions in which we operate in. 
  • Maintain strong relationships with all relevant teams and sustainability stakeholders to provide consistent and structured sustainability communications support.
Skills and attributes:
  • Good knowledge and a keen interest in all aspects of business sustainability 
  • Cultural awareness and an understanding of different regional communications requirements 
  • Intranet and website content management system experience is desirable
  • Proven experience of working on complex marketing campaigns and projects
  • An eye for creativity and design 
  • Excellent writing skills and the ability to adapt and edit other people's copy
  • Proven experience of working with a fast and varied workload, ideally within an international organisation
  • Flexibility to balance multiple competing demands
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail 
  • Comfortable dealing with people at all levels of the business
