Associate – New York, NY - Advise mainly Mandarin-speaking high-net-worth individuals, family offices, and family-owned businesses on comprehensive tax, trust, estate, and wealth succession planning. Design and implement customized estate plans, trusts, and asset restructuring strategies, including coordination of domestic and international entity formation and administration. Provide guidance to clients, advisors, and fiduciaries on U.S. and international tax compliance, including review of tax and informational filings for individuals, trusts, and entities. Deliver cross-border income, estate, and transfer tax planning for non-U.S. residents with U.S. assets or income, and U.S. residents with foreign holdings. Conduct in-depth research and apply complex rules governing U.S. trust planning, foreign grantor and non-grantor trust structures, pre-immigration planning, expatriation strategies, and other international tax areas (e.g., controlled foreign corporations (CFCs), passive foreign investment companies (PFICs)). Advise on tax implications for Chinese clients with U.S. beneficiaries and other multi-jurisdictional family structures. Counsel on estate administration in New York for foreign individuals with U.S. situs assets and U.S. citizens with both domestic and foreign situs assets or exclusively U.S.-based assets. Address state and local tax issues related to real estate, art collections, aircraft, and other high-value assets. Provide specialized guidance on emerging asset classes such as cryptocurrency and blockchain-based investments, integrating tax and trust planning considerations. Perform tax modeling to quantify potential tax savings, exposures, and risks associated with existing and proposed client structures.
